The Stepping Stones environment provides a community outside the family for young children up to the age of 3 years-old. Students enjoy a social experience in an environment that fosters their unique physical and psychological development. The program is designed to be sensitive to a toddler’s stage of development between babyhood and childhood by offering an atmosphere that encourages independence while providing security. The Stepping Stones I class curriculum is developed for students ages 18 months to two years-old, and is offered two mornings a week (Thursdays and Fridays). The Stepping Stones II class curriculum is developed for students ages 2-3 years-old , and is designed to help students make a smooth transition into the Primary classroom. The Stepping Stones II class meets three mornings a week. (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday).
An Environment Designed for Independence
Stepping Stones students are continuously making new discoveries and are striving to perfect the skills that will allow them to pursue their explorations more independently. Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment in which this growth can take place. Everything in the Stepping Stones classroom is designed to allow children to function independently; to whatever extent they are able, so that they will view themselves as capable individuals. As their self-reliance increases, so does their self confidence in concentrating and completing work, respecting the work of peers, and participating in group activities. Their understanding of the world is increased with opportunities to explore culture through books, songs, and language activities. Through careful observation, teachers guide and challenge each child on his own learning path. As the child’s language development and socialization increase, we provide intentional modeling and lessons in respectful interactions and simple conflict resolution techniques. We build a caring community of learners with a strong foundation for successful learning.
