Meet The Teachers - Middle Years Program

David Tomlin

Middle School Social Studies and Advisor

David joins our Middle School team, teaching 6th grade Humanities (LA/SS), 7th and 8th grade Social Studies, and serve as a Middle School advisor. After attending Guildford College, he immediately became a teacher at New Garden Friends School and eventually became Head of School. The accomplishments over his many years of service to New Garden are innumerable and include developing and implementing integrated studies, grades 3-8; revitalizing the service learning program; leading experiential learning trips; coaching basketball; clerking committees; and leading diversity efforts. David also served as Trustee and Clerk of Friends Council on Education. David and his wife Carrie moved to Cedar Key, Florida six years ago to take a break. The break lasted an incredibly short time as David was drawn back into teaching, this time at a very small public school on the gulf coast. “When my wife and I chose to move to southeastern North Carolina, I knew exactly where I wanted to teach--Friends School of Wilmington. In my many visits to the school I always felt the passion for learning and teaching, the care and concern for the students, and the commitment to social activism through Quaker tenets. I am now so excited to be a part of your thriving school community.”
