As we gather around dining room tables adorned with warmth, gratitude, and turkey aplenty, we extend our heartfelt wishes for a joyous Thanksgiving. In this season of reflection, we celebrate our community and the spirit of togetherness that defines Friends School of Wilmington all year long. May this holiday season be a reminder of the strength found in our collective spirit and the importance of fostering genuine connection and appreciating unique differences. Wishing you all a Thanksgiving filled with love, laughter, song, and a deep sense of appreciation.

After a multi-year pause during the height of COVID, our international service learning trip to Dominican Republic is back (and better than ever)! 10 student travelers will be joined by trip leaders Martina Jonsson-Boykin and Kaylie Saidin on their January 2024 trip to Puerto Plata where they’ll be working closely with DREAM (Dominican Republic Education & Mentoring) Project. While there, students will be participating in daily intercambio classroom exchanges with Dominican students and adventuring to historic places like El Choco National Park and Cacao Finca. The trip also provides students with an opportunity to think with careful nuance about sustainable development practices and the importance of cultural heritage conservation from the place-based lens of Puerta Plata.

Yesterday on November 9th, officials from New Hanover County, the City of Wilmington, and other community organizations gathered for a wreath-laying ceremony at 1898 Memorial Park. We were honored for our 8th grade class to participate in the event alongside 8th grade students and teachers from D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy.

Thanks to the generosity of Cape Fear Garden Club and the leadership of Karen Linehan, Environmental Education Coordinator, and Sarah McIntosh, Parent Association Co-Clerk, Friends School of Wilmington recently received a $4,000 grant to bolster our Native Plants Initiative around campus.
