Talk About Hands-On Learning!
Spring is in the air—and so are end-of-year field trips! While classes are gearing up for some exciting capstone adventures, our students have been out and about all year long, engaging in hands-on, experiential learning all over Wilmington. Take a look at some of their amazing adventures over the last few months!
- Kindergarten – Visited the Cape Fear Museum for “In Our Backyard,” learning about beavers, Venus flytraps, and local animal tracks.
- 1st & 2nd Grades – Participated in the Great Backyard Bird Count at Carolina Beach State Park.
- 3rd Grade – Practiced Spanish language skills with an immersive visit to La Huerta Fresh Produce.
- 4th Grade – Conducted archival research on the American Revolution at the New Hanover County public library.
- 5th Grade – Dove into the Masonboro Island Reserve ecosystem by studying oceanic salinity and salt crystals.
- 6th Grade – Explored history and archaeology at Fort Fisher and Brunswick Town, including a ferry ride and picnic in Southport.
- 7th Grade – Investigated fish fraud through gel electrophoresis in a marine science lab with UNCW's MarineQuest program.
- 8th Grade – Wrapped up their nature writing unit with a study of adrenaline, fear, and risk-taking, then went rock climbing at Wilmington Rock Gym.
