7th Grade Capitol Hill Lobbying Featured On C-SPAN

WOW, look at these 7th grade students REPRESENTING! Reese, Charlotte, Jane, along with Middle School teachers Rob Ward and Amy McGlinn, were recently featured on C-SPAN's Washington Journal while the class was in D.C. for their end-of-year trip! Students thoughtfully tied in themes of climate justice, global advocacy, and bipartisan compromise when asked about whether Congress should raise the debt ceiling.

What else did 7th graders accomplish during their time at the Capitol? Hands-on learning at the Smithsonian's National Zoo, National Museum of African American History and Culture, International Spy Museum, Library of Congress, and the Smithsonian National Museum of Asian Art; bike tours around the National Mall; meaningful workshops with Friends Committee on National Legislation on approaches to lobbying rooted in relationship building and Quaker values; and Congressional visits with Representative David Rouzer and Senator Thom Tillis to advocate for global climate assistance.

Let’s say it again. WOW. This is what it means to be a lifelong learner who acts with courage, integrity, and love. Bravo to our students and to our teacher-mentors who so beautifully live out our mission statement. We are SO proud!
