Montessori Preschool
Our Montessori preschool program is grounded in the fundamental belief that each child is a unique individual, and when placed in a nurturing environment that encourages exploration and curiosity, students will thrive to reach their fullest potential. Our multi-year classes offer a unique cycle of learning designed to take advantage of developmentally sensitive years when children easily absorb information from an enriched and structured environment. Each of our preschool classrooms are entrenched in 5 key Montessori learning areas to best foster independence, concentration, and confidence.
-
- Practical Life: familiar materials help children learn to care for themselves and their environment
- Sensorial: materials refine the senses and help children assess and categorize the many sensory impressions they receive from their environment
- Language: materials encourage vocabulary enrichment, language training, and development of writing and reading
- Math: materials start with concrete examples of number symbols and quantity and then build to concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Cultural: materials and lessons span geography, history, art, music, science, cooking, gardening, courtesy and other learning opportunities that present themselves
Stepping Stones (18 months - 3 years)
Stepping Stones is intentionally designed for independence and discovery by providing a community outside the family for young children. Students enjoy a social experience in an environment that fosters their unique physical and psychological development between the stages of babyhood and childhood. As self-reliance increases, so does a child's confidence in concentrating and completing work, respecting the work of peers, and participating in group activities. As students' language development and socialization increase, we provide intentional modeling and lessons in respectful interactions and simple conflict resolution techniques to build a caring community of learners.
Our Stepping Stones 2 classroom is open to children 18 months-2.5 years and meets from 8AM-12PM on Thursdays and Fridays. Our Stepping Stones 3 classroom is open to children 2-3 years and meets from 8AM-12PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.
Stargazers (3 - 5 years)
Our Stargazer program provides a nurturing, child-centered, prepared environment that allows for the natural development of each child’s physical, emotional, and cognitive skills. The classrooms invite children into an exciting realm of ideas and discovery, where they are able to assimilate information through concrete, experiential learning in a non-competitive atmosphere.
Students ages three to five are together in one classroom. This age span enables older children to model behavior and lessons for younger children and gain valuable leadership skills in the classroom. Students learn to respect the work of others, to quietly indicate their need for attention from a teacher, and to appreciate the value of others’ contributions in the classroom. They learn to share in the responsibilities of the classroom and manage conflicts peacefully. Together, we build a caring social community that inspires each child to respect and celebrate the unique gifts that classmates bring to the group.
Our Stargazer Purple and Stargazer Blue classrooms are both open to children 3-5 years and meet from 8AM-12PM on Monday through Friday. Our Extended Day program is open to all Stargazer students who are ready to transition into a full day schedule. Extended Day runs from 12PM-2:45PM on Monday through Friday.
